Welcome to B&M Survive LDR!

We are 3 years into our relationship and a little under 3 years of LDR. I bet you have only ever really heard about the bad and the ugly of Long Distance Relationships? Well with this blog, we want to share the good that comes from it as well.

Our 1st Anniversary - 2/24/17

Updated: Apr 24, 2019

One of the many cool things about being in a committed relationship are the milestone you accomplish with each other. The awesome things we get to do to celebrate those accomplishments together, like: anniversaries, new job positions, vacations, debt free, health and fitness. Whatever it is, big or small it's worth celebrating. So for our 1st Anniversary we definitely celebrated it in a big way.

Marcus

Bry was already coming down to Tuskegee the weekend of our 1st Anniversary. Her plan was to fly to Atlanta and then drive down to Tuskegee on that Friday. Unfortunately, I was stilling working, so I couldn't go down with her that morning. Bry had got a rental car from the airport and I thought that she was going to go straight to Tuskegee but nope, she had something else planned. Being the wonderful woman and girlfriend she is, she came and surprised me at work with some Krispy Kreme donuts. AMAZING!!!! I had to share the donuts, so I was not too happy about that.

After I got off work, I drove to Tuskegee and we met up. For 48 hours, we spent time catching up with friends and just reliving our college days. After those 48 hours were, up we definitely did not want to leave and go back to adulting.

Our anniversary was on Friday but because we were in Tuskegee, we decided to celebrate on Sunday. If you read our post about Bry’s birthday surprise, you know how this is going (and if you haven’t go check it out). A few weeks before, I started planning how to effectively use our time on Sunday to celebrate not just our 1 year of being together but also 9 months of being long distance. While planning, I thought of this cool restaurant I wanted to take her too but it was at the top of a building. While I knew this would be an amazing experience, I had to remember that Bry is afraid of heights. Now that I knew where we were going I had to figure out how to get her up there.

That night I took Bry to the Sun Dial Restaurant at the top of the Westin Hotel in downtown Atlanta, GA. SN: it's a very cool restaurant that rotates 360 degrees showing the Atlanta skyline and beyond. If you’ve been to the Sun Dial, you know that you have to take an elevator about 60 floors up to the restaurant. So what I did was have Bry stand close to me with her back facing the glass so she couldn’t look down. It worked! We made it to the top and had a great time enjoying each other’s company and just talking. It felt like we had been there for hours but we had only 2 hours once we got seated to complete our meal and to talk. Why? Well it’s kinda funny, we had to kind of rush because we had to get Bry to the Atlanta airport so she could fly back to Minnesota. Still, every minute of that day was worth it.

Oddly enough my sorority’s (Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc.) week at Tuskegee was the same weekend as our anniversary so I was able to hit 2 birds with one stone. I was headed to Tuskegee to help my sorority sisters with different events and overall to hang out with college friends. I fly in to Atlanta but Marcus had to work so I got a rental and told him that I would swing by his job before I headed to Tuskegee. What he didn’t know was that I was planning to bring him Krispy Kreme donuts. I let him know I’m outside of his office and he comes out with the biggest smile and once he saw the donuts it got even bigger. I got the chance to meet his coworkers that I always heard about and it was a good time but he was a little upset that he had to share the donuts with them.

After, I went on my way to Tuskegee to see all my friends and hang out. That night, we all planned to go to a party at one of the clubs in town so we all got dressed to go. Marcus ended up meeting me there and we danced and partied like we did in our college days. The next day we continued to see friends and just hang out together. Sunday, we had breakfast with a mentor of mine and then we left to head back to Atlanta. Once we got to Atlanta, we went back to his house so I could see his family before we went to our mystery anniversary dinner.

Before we got to the restaurant the only thing I knew was that we had to dress super nice and that it was going to be a little pricey; nothing more nothing less. As we parked and are walking into the hotel to get to the restaurant I see a sign with the name SunDial Restaurant on it and that it says the restaurant is on the top floor, so then I knew it was super high up. After figuring that out, in my mind that elevator ride was definitely a “naw from me dawg” but Marcus made sure I felt safe by making sure I didn’t look down. Once we got up there it was amazing! The view was perfect and the fact that it spins made it even more magical. It was a great surprise and even greater night that I wish would have lasted longer but I had to get to the airport so I could fly back home.

Like any LDR couple the moments together out weight the moments apart especially when those moments are celebrating milestones in life and/or the relationship.
